Vision

Free, fair and safe elections in a healthier Nigeria

Mission

Our mission is to encourage voters to use their right to vote for the greater good. We seek to educate them on their right for fair elections and on how informed voting can significantly impact their life and health in positive ways. By combining a convenient opportunity for voters to register and learn about the voting process with health screening and education, we will motivate citizens to elect leaders who will prioritize their communities and their health.

The Project

Who, What, When, Where & How?
  • 1
Beginning with Abia, we will deploy teams of medical personnel and volunteers who will go to the 17 local government areas in the state;.

  • 2
Our medical personnel will perform blood pressure health screenings and educate attendees on how voting impacts their health while our volunteers will guide attendees in the PVC voter pre-registration process.

  • 3
INEC will be present on-site to help those pre-registered complete the biometric portions of their registration before they go, which will allow attendees an expedited opportunity receive their PVCs.

When?

This exercise will be a daily occurrence in different areas in each of the 17 local government areas for the next 3 months or until INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration process ends.

What we know about High Blood pressure in Nigeria

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure) is the the major silent killer amongst young people in Nigeria.  It is the most common cause of end stage kidney disease in Nigeria which carries a greater than 95% mortality rate within 6 months of diagnosis.
  • Hypertension is a risk factor for two conditions found in the top ten causes of death in Nigeria, ischemic heart disease and strokes.
  • Hypertension is even becoming more prevalent in rural areas and many Nigerians don’t know they have it.
  • Hypertension “is already a significant public health burden in this population and that disease awareness level is very low”. (Banigbe et. al)
